Your personal style determines what to wear for mountain biking. Trail riders and downhill riders in particular opt for baggy clothing consisting of loose-fitting shorts and a loose-fitting jersey, while more race-oriented cross-country riders often go full Lycra.
When you're just starting out, chances are you'll want gear designed for the specific demands of mountain biking. Where you ride and the time of year/season have a big impact on what you decide to wear. When the weather is warm and the trails are dry, you need less protection from the elements than in the middle of winter. Of course you should also look at the nature of your ride. For example, if you are on your way in Austria or France, you should definitely take a (padded) wind jacket with you, you never know how cold it can be during the descents.
Whatever choice you make, whether it is Lycra or a loose fit, choose mountain bike clothing that you feel comfortable in. We offer clothing from brands such as Endura, Leatt and DHaRCO that have years of experience with the requirements set for quality mountain bike clothing and are often also environmentally consciously manufactured.
